General Lee’s Lincoln Limo Sidekick
17th November 2008
Sold on ebay in Northern Ireland this Lincoln Towncar has been painted to match the colors of the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard. The Leprechauns in Hazzard, Georgia are tearing at the thought!
Along with the nine supped up 2008 Focus models that we showed you last night (click here), Ford will also present four more proposals at this month’s SEMA show: two personalized editions of the Mustang and one for each of the Fusion and Lincoln MKZ models.
Focusing on the Focus is not a bad idea but Ford couldn’t go to this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show without bringing pick-up trucks and crossovers. Ford’s offerings at the annual aftermarket show in Las Vegas on Oct. 30 will include specially tuned versions of the Ford Edge, Escape, Expedition, F-150 and Lincoln MKX, Navigator models. Also on stand will be a special 1951 Ford pickup truck which was completed by the Make-A-Wish foundation for a young cancer patient named Justin Lilley.
Here’s yet another vehicle from the Detroit Show that, like the 2009 Toyota Venza, it doesn’t know which category it wants to belongs to. Frankly, Lincoln’s MKT reminds us of an American interpretation of the Renault Vel Satis luxury sedan, and that, isn’t something we’d brag about… But anyway, Lincoln supports that the MKT Concept shows how the brand’s new design language works on a spacious luxury utility vehicle as it does on luxury sedans like the new 2009 MKS.
Ford’s semi-luxury (…) Lincoln brand took the wraps off the production version of the MKS at the 2007 L.A. Show today. Based on the underpinnings of the Ford Five-Hundred/Taurus, the 2009 MKS will unseat the Town Car as Lincoln’s flagship model -though the latter will continue to be produced. Penned by former Volvo chief designer, Peter Horbury, the MKS aims at drawing customers under 50. Lincoln believes that up to 60 percent of those buying it will be
first time customers to the make.
This bashed-up 2009 Lincoln MKS test mule (see the production model here)was caught on film by our fellow mates over at Jalopnik. The car was spotted somewhere in Detroit and as you can see in the pictures, it’s in a pretty bad shape. From the looks of it, someone must have had a slip-up as the lower front end of the MKS is missing. Still, we don’t understand the reason why Lincoln’s testers attached a tow bar in front of the car.
MY2005-2006 Ford F-150s and Lincoln Makr LTs equipped with 5.4L 3-Valve engines are being recalled due to a faulty brake booster vacuum supply hose. Over time, the hose that is attached to the intake manifold may swell and lose retention force, a condition that could allow the hose to become detached from the fitting during an intake manifold backfire.
If this happens, once the vacuum reserve is depleted drivers will no longer have power assist braking. They still will have foundation brake function, but with increased brake pedal effort –a scenario that most drivers will want to avoid. Ford is expected to begin the recall on or about July 7, 2008, but if you want to learn more, you can contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.
It may not be the original Deathmobile that starred in the 1978 hit comedy National Lampoon’s Animal House with the late John Belushi, but this replica that’s for sale on eBay is definitely an eye-catcher. Like the movie car, the Deathmobile replica is based on a 1960s Lincoln Continental and it has all the original features like the head of Emil Faber’s campus statue as a hood ornament, the large tower that displays the fraternity’s letters and the faux teeth and eyes in the front-end of the vehicle.
Sometimes consumers are just asking for trouble. Take Ford’s humongous safety recall that affected about 12 million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and passenger cars over a defective cruise control switch that could lead to a fire (and has in more than 60 cases from August through February) at any time, even while the vehicle is turned-off, parked and unattended.
The brand-new 2009 MKS sedan will take center stage at Ford’s Lincoln booth at the SEMA show which will be held November 4-7 in Las Vegas. All in all, Lincoln will feature three MKS models customized by 3dCarbon, Godfather Customs and RK Sport along with an MKX Crossover tuned by Street Concepts. “The MKS has many different facets,” said Ford designer Melvin Betancourt. “You can hot rod it, add a body kit and still maintain that luxury feel, or you can simply dress it up with a nice set of wheels.” Hit the jump for the pictures along with a short descrpition of the vehicles from Ford.
